2003 SQUAD CONTINUE WINNING RUN
Tristar U11’s played their U10 team mates in a top of the table clash at Magee in the Winter League this weekend. In a game that the late Jon Clifford would have been proud of, every challenge was fiercely contested and all twenty players gave their all throughout. As the league table suggests there is little between these teams and this game certainly reflected that with only one goal separating the sides at the end. The all important goal arrived just before half time when a clever corner by Caolan Condren released Kia Twells who struck a first time shot through a group of players and into the corner of the net to put the U11 team into the lead. As the game opened up in the second half there were chances at each end with both goal keepers Conor O’Neill and Shane Kyle making save after save. Towards the end of the game Lee Harkin and Jamie Lucas almost extended the lead for the U11 team while at the other end Cormac Bradley, Aaron Reid and Ciaran McLaughlin all went close to finding an equaliser for the U10 team. When the final whistle brought an end to this very competitive game it was great to see the sportsmanship and camaraderie between both sets of players who were a credit to Jon Clifford’s Tristar Boys. Well done to all of the players who represented the club so well.
Under 11 FOYLE GAMES DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Tristar got their FGDC campaign started against Trojans and what a game it was. They got off to a flyer with a thunderbolt from Caolan Condren but Trojans replied shortly after with one of their own. Two quick goals from Dylan Kyle and Lee Harkin gave the Red and Whites a bit of breathing space but Trojans replied with a goal before half time. The second half started with both teams looking for more goals and it was Harkin again, this time with a free kick who opened up a two goal gap again but credit to the Creggan outfit Trojans, they battles back to score two quick-fire goals to draw it level. With only minutes remaining Harkin, with a trademark dribble and goal, thought he had snatched the victory only for Trojans to score with a wonder strike to leave, what was a very entertaining game, level at the end. Well done to all the boys from both teams, excellent advertisement for youth football and played in a great spirit
Under 9 FOYLE GAMES DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Tristar’s 2005 squad had one of their two teams at the FGDC on Tuesday at St.Columb’s College and got their campaign off the a flyer against Maiden City. Early goals from Charlie McGinley and Jeni Coyle settled the youngsters down. JP Owens was a rock in the centre the whole night as were Oran Coyle, Adam Tiernan and Shea Gallagher in defence. Further goals from McGinley and Coyle took them to a brace each for the pair. Credit goes to Maiden City who kept going and a couple of deflected goals got them back in the game, with Ryan Sheerin keeping it tight in midfield for Tristar. Tristars second game was a very tough one but a goal, again from McGinley set them on their way. A superb second goal, with build-up play from Conor Barr and Adam Condren, set up Coyle for her third goal of the night. Then it was down to Shea Wylie, who made a couple of superb saves to keep his team ahead. Tristar had another half chance from Adam Gallagher before two quick goals, the first a wonder strike drew the game level.
Well done to all the kids, keep up the good work
